Water Buffalo Hunting Safaris Photo Gallery 2013
-
Peter Vermuelen with a nice buffalo bull taken after an hour of tracking in thick bush. Taken with his favourite 375H&H.;
-
Young Mr Schreurs took this nice bull on the Carmor plains late afternoon in October. The later part of the year October-December is a great time of year for hunting as water is becoming scarce and buffalo are concentrated around the waterholes.
-
Mr Oyvind Christensen from Norway took this fine old “dugga boy” buffalo after a November storm.
-
Mr Dave Tretter USA took this massive buffalo bull in November on the plains at Carmor. Look at the size of the body of this 100 SCI point bull. No-where will you see bigger buffalo. These big floodplain bulls are substantially bigger than African Cape Buffalo.
-
Mr Dave Tretter again with a really old buffalo in the bush country of Carmor Plains. These old bulls live out their days away from the plains where the bigger and stronger younger bulls roam. Whilst not as big in the body as the previous floodplain bull, this old warrior has great horns.
-
Mr Dennis Brownley, USA with a nice old buffalo from Carmor Plains. Taken one hot midday in November.
-
This is a very wide straight horned bull on the plains. This old buffalo exudes character!
-
Mr Oyvind Christensen, Norway hunted this old bull in the thickest shit you can ever imagine! Even with a double rifle a wounded bull in this stuff gets fairly interesting… not for the faint hearted! This bull was hit hard and ran into this paperbark swamp, to wait for us. When we walked in… he was ready!
-
Mr Peter Vermuelen, Australia with a fine old sweeper bull, taken on the plains on sunset.
-
Young Mr Luke Hodges has hunted with me many times at Carmor Plains. This massively wide (53 inches) old warrior was a trophy well deserved.
-
This big bull is a great trophy, but still quite young, maybe only 6 or 7 years. He is going to be a monster bull in a few more years!!
-
Mr Frank Jelenek from Czech Republic took this old bull with a Merkel 470 NE.
-
Mr Peter Rafaj took this grand old buffalo bull out on the Carmor plains. This bull has rubbed his tips off and even rubbed the bases smooth… probably 14 years+ old.
-
Mr Ad Schreurs from the Netherlands took this really old bull in October
-
Mrs Gabriele Stork from Germany took this big bodied bull on the edge of the floodplains in January
-
Mr Hans Jauch, Germany took this tight curled bull in thick bush in January with a 458 WM.
-
Barnes TSX projectiles… perfect performance!
-
Nice buffalo bull at Carmor Plains, standing on the edge of the bush/safety.
-
Young Mr Adrian Sunito with his first big game… water buffalo.
-
Mr Marc Atherton with a very nice buffalo bull, taken in December
-
Barnes bullets do it again… and again!
-
Barnes TSX bullets. You can clearly see the outline of the projectile under the skin. The projectile has travelled through from one side to the other. Very few bullets will consistently pass through a big bodied bull and stop under the skin… Barnes TSX do.” >

-
This massive big old bull was taken by Dennis Young from Australia, in December. This bull has everything…great mass and width.
-
Paul Young took this buffalo bull one rainy December day with a Sauer 375H&H.;
-
This young bull has great potential. Not more than 5 years old… he has everything going for him to grow into a huge bull. Good genetics, good habitat and good tucker. The flood plain grasses he is standing in can offer him a 1 kilogram weight gain per day. This is why floodplain bulls get bigger than bulls that grow up in hard scrub country with marginal grasses.
-
This old sweeper bull taken with Australia Wide Safaris was older than Methuselah! Barely a tooth in his head, puts his age at around 16 years. OK, maybe methuselah was a bit older!
-
This might be Methuselah’s son! A very nice sweeper bull nonetheless taken by Oyvind Christensen from Norway.
-
Another massive floodplain bull taken by Mr Oyvind Christensen with a 470 NE double rifle. This bull scores 99 SCI due to a broken tip on the left, otherwise he would be over 100 points. The bull is massive, they just don’t get much heavier.
-
This bull taken out on the floodplains at Carmor, was quite a stalk…. all the way from the distant tree line. Hans Jauch from Germany hunted this bull with a 458 win mag. The bull took a beating…. so did Hans!! We had to walk all the way back of course!” >

-
Jens Pederson took this nice wide bull on the plains one beautiful clear morning in September.
-
Tony Johnston took this big old bull in July. This bull has incredibly thick horns. His tips are broomed off from fighting, but it only adds to his character.
-
Mr Boris Kheyfits from Russia with a great buffalo bull of 45 inches wide. Taken after a long chase through low brush, this bull took a beating requiring more than 5 shots with a 470 NE double rifle and several others from a 375 H&H.;
-
Another fine big buffalo bull taken by Boris Kheyfits from Moscow, Russia. A great day out for the double rifles!
-
Evgeny Katkov, Russia with a big buffalo cow on the Carmor plains.
-
Mr Kheyfits yet again with a nice old buffalo bull taken cleanly with a 470 Nitro double rifle. You cannot beat a big bore double for action when shooting big game.
-
Buffalo have a way of looking at you, like you owe them money!!
-
This enormous curled bull taken by Mr Igor Kheyfits from Russia, scores 104+ SCI. Another huge bodied bull on the Carmor flood plains. Hard to wipe the smile off these 2 gentlemen’s faces!
-
Boris Kheyfits with yet another nice buffalo taken in thick bush at close range with a 470 Nitro double rifle.
-
Buffalo hunting with double rifles… double the fun!! The Kheyfits gentlemen have done it again!
-
And again!! This is not biggest buffalo to ever roam the plains at Carmor Plains.. but he is an old warrior and a worthy trophy.
-
Mr Jos Bourg from Luxembourg took this nice old bull in the paperbark swamps of Carmor Plains
-
Mr Duncan Fraser from Cardrona Safaris, New Zealand with 100+ point bull taken with a 470 doubler rifle at 15 yards.” >

Miss Taylor Johnston with her first buffalo!
-
Mr Javier Bueno from Spain with a nice bull taken in May.
-
Mr Ian Lindenmayer from Australia took this 100+ SCI bull on the edge of the flood plains in June
-
Young bull wades through a flood plain channel. Mature bulls show very little fear of crocodiles. However buffalo cows with young calves avoid water when possible.
-
Farley Nesaman from the USA took this nice trophy bull
-
Darrell Hodges from Australia hunted this great old buffalo with sweeping horns. These old bulls with really heavy mass and a wide span, are hard to beat.
-
An old bull watches us from a distance
-
This young bull has good potential as a trophy bull. Good bases already and a nice sweeping shape.
-
Greg Retschlag from Australia took this big old bull of 100+SCI with his 375H&H; falling block. This old bull of 12-14 years was unusual, in that he still had perfect long horn tips. Most older bulls bust off their sharp tips when they are fighting. Greg was fortunate in finding this great trophy bull
-
Mr Gilbert Narvaez, USA with a top quality big buffalo bull.
-
Larry Russak, USA about to “smoke” a big bull that is staring at us… just over my right shoulder. A frontal shot is always risky, but with a good rest or shooting off the “sticks” it can usually be done with success.
-
Mr Gilbert Narvaez has just belted this big bull in the shoulder. You can see the immediate effect of a well placed shot. The bull drops his head and lifts his shoulder where he has been hit.
-
Mr Thad Stevens from USA, Barnes Bullet Co. enjoyed getting in close on this buffalo. This wide horned bull is also massive in body size…. one of the bigger bulls I have seen. He took 6 shots from a 458 win mag, all loaded with 500 grain Barnes TSX bullets. That is a combined 2500 grains of projectile before he stopped running!
-
Thad Stevens again with an old buffalo cow with great horns.
-
Jessica Stevens from Barnes bullets shot this big bodied bull with a 375 H&H;, at close range in tall vegetation. He ran off 50 yards, then took a few more Barnes bullets from Jessica’s rifle before collapsing under this shady tree.
-
Ali Toksoy from Turkey took this wide bull in heavy brush. Both his 375 H&H; and my 470 NE were required to bring him down.
-
Ali Toksoy from Turkey with another bull buffalo in thick bush at Carmor Plains. This old bull has very unusual drooping horns. Several shots from the 375 H&H; to stop this big bodied bull.
-
Mr Andrey Roketskiy with a great buffalo bull taken in heavy brush
-
Mr Vasily Yurchenko with a big bodied buffalo taken in March in thick vegetation and vines.
-
Mr Soren Hansen from Denmark took this brown coloured bull with nice curled horns in March
-
This old bull pauses on the edge of thick bush to take one last glance at us. If you are going to shoot him, the time is right now! On the shoulder where the dried mud is.
-
The same big bull out on the plains. Here a frontal shot is presented. If there is no better option and you are confident of the rifle and your bullet placement, dead centre in the chest will do the job (a little on the left to allow for the angle). But as he turns to run after the first shot, belt him again in the shoulder. Don’t expect him to drop… a big bull never drops unless shot in the brain or in the spine.
-
Curt Thompson took this great old bull with a 470 double rifle in March. We stalked up on him in the jungle behind while he was feeding.
-
Rainer Friedrich Germany took this tight curling bull in March. This bull took 6 shots with a 375 H&H; and 2 from my 470 NE. This bull was hit hard with the first shot, but still took us on a merry chase through this thick vegetation for over an hour.
-
Pablo Gonzales with a nice old buffalo bull, taken in February at Carmor Plains with Australia Wide Safaris
-
Michael Robbo with a huge bodied bull taken in thick vegetation. This bull ran into this thicket after 3 solid shoulder shots from a 375H&H.; We followed him but as it was almost dark we had to return the next morning to continue the search. We found him piled up in the thickest of it.
-
Justin Cruise took this big bruiser with a 458 win mag. This bull took several shots to stop him. He has massively thick horns.
-
John Winslett USA shot this fine bull with a 470 double rifle in April.
-
Gilbert Narvaez, USA with his 2nd buffalo taken at Carmor Plains.
-
Ray Gonzales, USA with a pretty bull, taken with a 458 win mag during May
-
George Williamson USA with a grand old buffalo bull taken in a paperbark swamp. This photo tells a great story! The swamp, the mud, the thick trees show the tough environment these big bovines thrive in. The smile on Mr Williamson’s face tells the rest!
-
Larry Russak, USA with a very good buffalo. Hunted in the late afternoon, this bull took off running after the first shot. We caught up with him several hundred yards later in some thick bush to finish the job.
-
Bruce Ives from New Zealand with a very nice wide bull. Bruce insisted he wanted to shoot his buffalo with one shot only. I told him it couldn’t be done!!!…. I was right!! It took 2 shots!!
-
Mr Alex Chikunov with a good representative bull. Nothing special, but a nice stalk and well placed shot.. sometimes a successful hunt is enough.
-
This young bull has good potential as a trophy. He is also massive in body size.
-
Same young bull from previous photo, he has now noticed us. We are in the shadows of some trees on the edge of the floodplains. Sometimes you can almost see what they are thinking from the expression on their face. This bull is not aggressive at all. He is thinking… “Oh shit!!”
-
Mr Adolfo Gutierrez with a big black old bull. This was a fine hunt in thick bush. First shot taken at less than 20 yards but it was never going to be over that easy. Following a big bull on a blood trail into this stuff … is a rush… better than any drug!
-
Delery Guillory, USA took this fine sweeper bull in January
-
Mr Stefan B, Germany took this big old buffalo with his Heym 500 Nitro double rifle in January. A great bull, a great day!!
-
Mr Jorgen Posselt, Germany with a very black bull with thick horns, taken in January
-
Delery Guillory, USA with an old female buffalo. The cows sometimes have longer horns than the bulls, which make for a very impressive trophy.
-
Mr Michael Trovato, Australia with a hard earned trophy bull buffalo. This bull took us over an hour to stalk. We crawled across 400 yards of hard burnt ground to keep out of sight from this wary bull! At 60 yards Michael took a rest against a tree, snicked the safety off on his 450/400 double rifle, when the bull immediately leapt to his feet, somehow he had noticed us… but by then Michael was ready… and the rest is history and memories!!
-
Mr Yuri Pisarev, with a huge bodied buffalo bull with massive horns to match. 105 SCI points. This big bull eluded us for 3 years before we finally caught up with him in January.
-
Mr Anders Horsbol, Denmark with nice buffalo taken at 30 yards with a 470 double rifle, during January. January -April is my favourite time of year for hunting. The buffalo are big and fat, the bush is beautiful and green and it is perfect conditions to track these old bulls.
-
Soren Lindbjerg with a big bodied old bull that is heavily broomed on the tips. A lot of hunters like an old trophy like this, it adds character.
-
Claus Saetre from Denmark hunted this superb big buffalo in January in a paperbark swamp. It is a great bull, reasonably wide but with nice curled tips as well.
-
Christoph von Graevemeyer, Germany took this large bodied, 100 point bull. Rifle used was a beautifully stocked Sauer 458 Lott
-
Great old buffalo bull taken by Mr Stefan B from Germany with his double rifle, a Heym 500 NE with engraved side plates.
