Australia Wide
Safaris operate their main safari camp on 'Carmor
Plains'. This large game reserve of 100 000 acres
is situated 210km east of Darwin.
The property terrain varies dramatically. Half is covered by scenic
flood plains, the other by semi open forest. The flood plains are
totally covered in water during the summer when 90 % of the rain falls.
During this period the game move higher up into the forest. The higher
land is reasonably flat with a high upper canopy of trees and low
shrubs and grasses. In some other areas there are thick rainforests
and springs.
Carmor Plains is a Photographer's paradise, providing
you with endless subjects. Wildlife such as crocodile, kangaroo, wallaby,
goanna and countless varieties of wetland and forest birds are always
willing to present themselves along the way.
Australia Wide Safaris provides first class accommodation
for our clients. Our cabin's are air conditioned with ensuite bathrooms.
All meals are catered for in our homestead's dining area over looking
the vast flood plains.
We conduct 1 or 2 day safaris. Each day we will travel by 4wd to view different types of flora and fauna and we can also incorporate looking at the day to day workings of Carmor Plains' cattle business.
Whilst at Carmor Plains you may also dare yourself to view some Crocodile harvesting. This is something very few other safari operations
offer. We have a license to catch and harvest crocodiles where you
can observe from a safe distance! The crocodiles are lured and baited
into a trap and if the reptile is large enough we will harvest the
animal for its skin.
Transport to the game reserve can be by road or private air charter. We will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival at Darwin and we can also arrange accommodation before and after the safari. Travelling time by road from Darwin to Carmor Plains is 2 and 1/2 hours. If you prefer we can charter a light aircraft for you from Darwin, direct to the hunting camp, flying time 25 minutes!
We operate all year round but best times are from
late April to the end of November. Our climate is most pleasant from
May until September and the chance of wet weather is very slim. Temperatures
during these times vary from 14 degrees at night to 30 degrees in
the heat of the day. Our summers are a little hotter with high humidity.
The wet season is however quite a dramatic but beautiful change and
you may like to consider a safari during the wet season, when the
plains are all lush green and covered in thousands of acres of water!
Clothing recommendations on a safari are cool (cotton) long sleeve shirts: long pants or shorts, both are ok. Good walking boots that are comfortable are important and they should be tolerant of water and mud. Bring a good hat and plenty of insect repellent and sun screen. A light coat can be necessary occasionally in the cool mornings.
Confirmation of safaris requires 50% deposit and the final account is paid at the end of the safari. Cancellation of a safari must be done 4 months before the safari date for a refund. Cancellations less than 4 months before the safari will be credited for a safari at a later date.
